Ocean kayaking is something anyone can do, and I can't think of a better place to kayak than here on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Listed below are some of the companies in the area that offer lessons, day trips and longer guided adventures.

The Broken Group Islands in Barkley Sound offer some of the best kayaking in the world. The waters are quite protected on the inside of the group of islands. There are 8 campsites, run by Parks Canada. Details from Parks Canada about the BGI are available here. To paddle out to the BGI from Toquart Bay involves an open water crossing, recommended for experienced paddlers only. In the past, the MV Francis Barkley could take kayakers from Port Alberni (or from Ucluelet during the summer) to Gibralter Island in the BGI, but now the route ends in Sechart, on the mainland, northwest of the islands. Lady Rose Marine Services also has a new water taxi service that can take kayakers from Toquart Bay to a number of different islands in the BGI Details are available here, at the bottom of the page.

Of course there are many nice day trips you can do in the area. Ucluelet Inlet is a relaxing place to paddle, as well as Grice Bay (just don't get stuck at low tide). And from Toquart Bay some nice day trips can be made.
